BurdaStyle 10/2011 #123 Wrap Dress

Hi everyone! This is my first guest blog for Minerva and I am so excited to be part of the team! I usually shy away from projects that have a strict deadline, as I like to sew whatever I feel like next and not sew under pressure. However, when a fun, non-restrictive challenge comes along with free fabric, I just could not say no!
Luckily, the Fabric that came is really right down my alley. This is a rayon challis with little black bird print, and ever so soft and drapery. I just love how classy and cute this print is. Even though it is white and soft, It is surprising opaque - I do need to wear beige underlings, but I feel just fine wearing this to the office and walking under the sun.
At first, I was planning to make a maxi dress with the fabric, but I have been wanting more summer wrap dresses for work, as my weight had been fluctuating the past few years and the wrap dresses works out so well in that situation. So I made BurdaStyle 10/2011 #123 again, with added flounce and subtracted sleeves.
I didnt cut a very exaggerated flounce, I wanted to keep it tame for the office.
I did cut the neckline lower than the pattern - a girls gotta live a little sometimes.
Out of pure laziness, I used the half circle left over from cutting the flounce as the additional side flounce. It added a lot of asymmetrical-ness to the dress since it’s so big, and I love it.
I also made the sash super long because I am extra like that.
It turned out really well!! The rayon has a nice bounciness to it, perfect for a flouncy dress, and the wrap with the long sash made the fit just right.
Thank you so much for reading!! I am so happy to be here and I look forward to the next challenge (and fabric!)!
