Christmas is undoubtedly the most wonderful time of the year. Decorations may be different in each culture and change from time to time, but decorating for holidays is one of the most memorable childhood experiences!
When I first saw Christmas fabrics at Minerva, I was sure I wanted to sew something related to children, especially something that will make them happy. So I thought of making small fabric pouches in order to fill them with chocolates and other sweets.
Here in Greece, according to our tradition, during Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, children are singing Carols from house to house while friends and families are treating them with money and/or sweets. So this year I am going to treat kids with these pouches as well!
Their construction is so easy! I cut rectangles and sewed them around leaving their top open. I filled them with chocolates and other sweets and added red ribbons to close them.
What I also love to do in my home for Christmas is to hang relative decorations on walls. And as I am in love with everything handmade, I used my embroidery machine and made this design with gnomes for my boys’ room.
For this one I used a cotton canvas fabric as a base and Gutermann rayon threads and Gutermann Sulky metallic threads, suitable for embroidery machine. As for the colours, I used Christmas related colours such as Christmas green (Gutermann 1208 & 1174) and Christmas red (Gutermann 1039) for Christmas tree , ornaments, gnomes hats/clothes etc. Other colours come from Gutermann set threads (Candy and Classic collections) that I have used in so many other projects until now.
Needless to say that my kids are really excited with this Christmas gnomes deco and I am going to embroider more for Christmas gifts!
May this season of love be the beginning of a blessed and peaceful year ahead!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!!!Olympia @my_lovemade_wardrobe
