Everyday Chic Christmas Dress
Posted in Projects on Monday the 2nd December 2019 by Vicki Ormerod
Do I really need a christmas dress? Yes! Absolutely! Let me regale you
with the tale of how my 3rd Everyday Chic Dress came to be my very
own season perfect Christmas dress.
Dubbed
the “Baubles” fabric – I fell for this lightweight cotton poplin when I saw the
colour palette of greens and purples and pinks. It has lovely crispness to it
that works well for sewing structure. Adorned with christmas baubles of many
shapes, the print charmingly says festive.
Subtle metallic gold snowflakes add an ultra –playful charm.
Unsure
what to make with this delightful print I spent some time looking through the
sewing patterns in my collection. There were many possibilities abound but
nothing quite “sparked”. Then came the day I had to clean up my sewing cave and
fold away my Sew Different Everyday Chic Dress pattern when a lightning bolt of
inspiration literally hit me.
The
Everyday Chic dress is a relaxed fit pullover dress from British designer Laura
Casey. The loose fit style is ideal for layering. It is a quick sewing project
as well given that it does not have buttons or zips. The best feature of this
pattern is the deep pockets. This is my third version of the dress so it goes
without saying that I highly recommend this pattern.
I
sewed size 10 based on my bust/waist/hip measurements and the fit is as I’d
expect based on the pattern envelope pictures.
The
“Baubles” fabric became an Everyday Chic Dress in that instant. I decided to
have some fun by using a tiny pink ric rac on the gigantic pockets. Its very
subtle but effective.
I
also opted to finish the neckline with a pink satin bias binding as well as
leave out the slash at the front bodice. Additionally I omitted the shirring
leaving the dress to have a loose fit – which given the festive feasting season
we are entering is more than apt!!!
Another
feature I tweaked was to make cuff sleeves. I made a sewalong tutorial showing
how to do this (it is super easy)
which you can check out here on my Youtube Channel.
I
am smitten with this festive fun dress – I have been wearing this out to the
Christmas related events that populate my festive calendar especially as I have
young kids in primary school. My kids have asked for their own “Baubles
dresses” and I may have to oblige. It certainly is full of festive spirit. And
on that note........
Wishing you all a lovely holiday!
