Knipmode Magazine Crepe Dress

Hello everybody, I am Camelia from @calcedoniasewing and I have a new project to share with you. A dress from Knipmode Magazine sewn in my most favorite fabric, crepe. This Crepe Fabric from Minerva is gorgeous, my favorite kind of print, florals on a black background and the structure of the fabric, love it!
The pattern is from the dutch sewing magazine named KnipMode, issue 2/2019, and it is also as PDF here but only in dutch.
This pattern has really nice details, which unfortunately are not all good to see in this print but from a closer look, it has a forwarded shoulder line with a back yoke and front pleats from the shoulder and from the waist, matching the two folds on the front skirt. The back bodice has two waist darts giving the possibility to get a perfect fit around the waist. I love the dropped shoulder and the sleeves with gathered hem and the ties. I think is a perfect combination for this beautiful fabric! I do have the feeling that the sleeves are just a bit too long but I might even take the sleeves off and bind the armholes...I liked the look of it also before I added the sleeves :)
The skirt parts, front and back, are not on the fold, I could have put them on the fold but I think that seam line breaks the print a little bit and by that, it also adds a bit of interest ratherv than having a big piece of floral print.
I know a lot of people love dresses with pockets, I do too, so I kept the pockets but you could easily make the dress without the pockets.
The dress has a side invisible zipper too, which in my case was really necessary as I made a size 40 for the bodice and size 38 for the waist and hips. To give a little extra support to the zipper area I interfaced the fabric with two strips of light fusible interfacing. I always interface the zipper area and for me, that is the first step in getting a perfect sewn zipper.
The original skirt length was much longer, I think I took 8 centimeters off from the length and the hem is 4 cm. I don`t know why the skirts/dresses from Knipmode are so long on me...I know they design for 172cm and I am 169cm ....so I can`t put all that extra length on me being shorter than their size, but measuring before cutting and making a toile( muslin or test garment) always gives me a perfect idea of the fit. The only changes I made, based on my test garment were to make my standard swayback adjustment and to adjust the skirt length.
I love everything about this dress, all the details and the striking black in contrast with the vibrant colors from the flowers makes it easy to wear.
