Lady McElroy New Look 6446 Jumpsuit

I have been wanting this fabric design for a while now! The tropical print is so perfect for this time of year. I also really love the colors in it- the background is a beautiful peach/ coral. I have seen some very lovely dresses made from the cotton poplin version but I was excited to see that it came in a Stretch Cotton Twill Fabric! I almost made a skirt with it but then I thought of this jumpsuit pattern! I knew it would be great to wear in the summer.
The pattern I used is New Look 6446 and is pretty easy to sew. This pattern has a lined bodice, wide cropped legs and the best part- pockets! This pattern also comes with a skirt option to make a maxi or short dress. I’m a big fan of jumpsuits and feel like I need more of them in my wardrobe. They are so comfortable and easy to throw on. Much like a dress, you don’t have to worry about finding a top to match which is always a problem for me with skirts.
I made this pattern last summer and it’s definitely a winner. I said I wanted to make it again so I am very glad I had the chance to do that! Last time I made it, I used a rayon fabric so I was excited to try it out with something with a little more structure. The rayon had a lot of drape so I was curious to see it in the twill for a different look. I like that this twill has a bit of stretch in it for this pattern, though it's not necessary.
I was happy with the fit on my rayon jumpsuit but when I tried this one on for strap placement, I noticed it looked a bit big. Luckily it was before I attached the lining and I was able to just take in the side seams for an easy fix. If you make this pattern, I definitely recommend trying it on when you are placing the straps so you can make sure the length of them is good. I also like to make sure they cover my bra straps. Last time I had to adjust the straps after I was all finished because I knew it was going to bother me!
I made an effort to pattern match on a few of the seams- the top band on the bodice and the back bodice at the zipper. They aren’t perfect but it’s close!
This pattern is a pretty quick sew. I made most of it in one afternoon. I probably would have finished the whole thing because I was so excited about it. Unfortunately I needed to get a zipper, though. As I said, I changed my mind last minute!
I love this jumpsuit so much! It’s so fun in this fabric and I know it’s going to get worn a lot!
Thank you for reading!

Your version of the pattern is absolutely beautiful. I have the same pattern. The problem I encountered with the pattern was that the back panel is too big - does not fit close to my back. Did you experience any problems with the actual pattern? · 20th Jul 2019 11:35am
