Pleated Christmas Skirt

Hi, Minerva blog readers. I love to be back with a new project to show to you. Hope you all have been well.
The fabric I chose is this lurex check fabric.
Almost as soon as autumn starts I start waiting for Christmas. Christmas time is one of my favorite times of the year. Christmas feels like a warm hug when it’s the most darkest time of the year here in Finland. You get to get together with you loved ones, eat well and just rest. That is why I felt immediately excited to do a Christmas sewing post.
Every year Christmas makes me feel excited and warm. Even thought is little dark I love preparing Christmas and that you get to burn candles and use decoration lights at home. I also love making Christmas crafts for myself and also for my family and even for friends sometimes.
Usually I do make something new for myself to wear on Christmas time. This year I will definitely wear this cute skirt with plaid print on it.
I chose for this project this beautiful plaid fabric which is little bit shimmering. This fabric was quite easy and nice to sew. It does not have any stretch in to it which is one of the reasons it is easy to sew. It’s not slippery at all and it stays on place. Also what could be more Christmasy than plaid pattern?
I think this skirt turned out to be quite cute. The sewing pattern I used with this fabric is from a Finnish sewing magazine called “Kotiliesi käsityö.” It has few pleats in front of the skirt and also on the back of the skirt.
In lining I used some old black viscose fabric I had in my fabric stash. I do recommend using a lining with this fabric if you make a skirt or a dress as it is little see through. But with lining it is just perfect.
I also think this fabric will feel more comfortable on you if you use lining with it.
I think this skirt fits just right for sipping tea at home while waiting for Christmas. As well as it is good for a little Christmas party, when you need to put something nicer on. And I could also wear it for the big day. It means the actual Christmas.
We celebrate Christmas on 24th of December here in Finland. Although I know many of you will celebrate on 25th of December. No matter what day you are celebrating I can definitely recommend making your own party skirt or even a party dress out of this fabric.
Here is little close up of the skirt, where you can see the shimmering effect better. I cannot wait it would be Christmas time and that I could wear this cute skirt.
Happy waiting for Christmas to arrive time to you all.
