Addicted to Frills

My names Samantha and I’m addicted to frills!... if you follow me on Instagram you will know that my recent sewing obsession has been frills, not just frills for me but if I’ve made a garment for someone else then it included a frill!
For my latest Minerva Crafts Post I have progressed from Frills to flounces with the New Look 6488 Dress Sewing Pattern. The pattern has 4 different options and all 4 would also be simple to hack in to a top version. I of course, opted for Option C – a knee length dress with a cold shoulder feature and a flounce across the bust, arms and back. In hindsight the season may be wrong for this dress, but it’s always good to get your holiday/summer wardrobe built up, isn’t it?
I’ve said it before - I am an Indie Pattern girl, I find the aesthetic of the big four pattern companies hard to look at and the instructions are boring which leads to me being easily distracted! I did begin to get frustrated as I could not find instructions for attaching the straps, until I relooked at all the insert sheets and found part two of the instructions… just give me a pretty colourful booklet and I’ll be happy and stress free! However, when you love a pattern you must get over these niggly things! The pattern itself sews together in 16 steps and is very straightforward, I would say it’s perfect for an advanced beginner as it features an invisible zipper to the back.
This gorgeous floral Viscose Challis Fabric from Minerva Crafts (a bargain at £6.99 per metre) was a dream to work with. If you have an Overlocker I would recommend overlocking the seams as there was a tiny bit of fraying and of course it’s always satisfying to have pristine insides on your make. The fabric also comes in two other colour way options, and are all currently in stock online.
The finished dress is perfect for a summer staple, a holiday, city break or even with some tights and boots in the current cooler weather. I’m still considering hacking my make into a top for the winter, but think I may regret that when we book our next holiday!
