It's been so tough to find time to sew at the moment, you know when life gets in the way; so I was super happy when I finally finished my latest dress; it certainly helped me to get my sewjo back.

I chose this beautiful Art Gallery Cotton Lawn Fabric with a shirt in mind but I had a last minute change of heart, mainly because I needed a dress for an upcoming holiday.

I really love the print on this fabric. I think that the dark grey background really makes the pretty flowers stand out and the shades of pink, orange and yellow work so well together.

I've made the Seamwork Catarina dress before. I love the simple style and it's super comfy to wear due to the elasticated waist, perfect for a holiday where I'm sure there will plenty of eating and a few cocktails.

I had to shorten the length quite a bit as I only had 2m of fabric but it actually turned out just perfect for me.

I decided to use bra strap elastic for the straps to make it even more comfortable. I love how they turned out but they were a bit of a pain to sew as the elastic is quite heavy and the fabric is light weight so they kept on fighting against one another.

I had enough fabric left over to add belt loops and a thin tie belt which gives it a nice little detail.

I made up the size according to my body measurements and didn't make any adjustments (other than the length) and the fit turned out just fine. It has adjustable straps which is great as they are never the right length for me.

There is no zipper or buttons on this pattern, you make it up like a standard bodice and gathered skirt but its purposely large, you then add elastic to the skirt seam allowance which clinches it in at the waist. The elastic means that you can stretch it over your head and shoulders to take it on and off.

I also love how this style can be dressed up with heels and accessories but can also be kept quite casual with converse and a denim jacket (which is my preferred look).

I know that I will get loads of wear out of this dress and I know that it will wash and last well as it's an Art gallery fabric.

Now it's time to get packing for that holiday.

Thanks for reading and happy sewing
