Black Monsal Joggers

So a bit of a different make for me this month. You know I’m all about comfy clothes and dressing like a toddler, but recently I’ve been seeing a lot of ‘smart tracksuits’. I know it doesn’t sound that great, but if you look at some inspiration I found on Pinterest you’ll see what I mean.
I wanted a really simple pair of jogging bottoms, that wouldn’t necessarily be obviously tracksuit-like. Something with a little style but nothing over fussy or decorative. The pattern I chose was the Monsal Pants from Wendy Ward’s book; ‘Beginners Guide to Sewing with Knitting Fabrics’. I’ve made the Monsal Pants before on the Minerva Crafts Blog, for Wendy’s Online Book Tour and they are still my cosiest slacks. The pattern is super adaptable and you can create the exact style and look you want. I’d highly recommend her book.
So I decided on a super simple, sleek pair of plain black joggers. Using the cuffs and a waistband to add shape and create a more tapered look. But adding no fancy edging or pocket trim. The fabric I chose to make it with is this gorgeous plain Ponte Roma Fabric
which I urge you to get, as it’s so super soft and great to sew with.
The instructions in the book are really clear and easy to follow, and the fabric isn’t slippery or tricky to cut and sew. I’d recommend you get a cutting mat and rotary cutter, it will help you immensely. So I think even stretch beginners would have absolutely no problem recreating this style.
I have since worn these joggers to work, teamed with a handmade jumper and I’m so happy with how this outfit turned out. In fact a lot of my customers didn’t even realise I had joggers on when I asked, WIN!
So my summary; the Ponte Roma is a must have fabric for your stash, plus it comes in loads of colours so I’m sure you’ll find something perfect for you. Don’t be afraid to try this pattern out as it’s not difficult to sew and you’ll love the result. I’m so happy with these.
I hope you like what I made this month. I know I won’t be able to wear these on every occasion (oh the dream) but I’m happy with the simple design and I think I might need another pair in grey too!
Happy Handmade everyone!
