Hygge Hubby Capsule Pt 3: McCalls Sweater Top

To say I loved making this top is an understatement. From the moment I set eyes on the Fabric when it arrived I knew it was going to be something amazing.
My husband and I had browsed the extensive Jersey Fabric selection on Minerva and he spotted this rhino print. He, like me, is sucker for quirky prints; just see the other two garments made with his selected fabrics, the Merchant and Mills Tee and these Cuffed Joggers.
The rhino print Sweater Fabric is very soft with modest stretch. It’s perfect for things like jogger pants and sweaters. He has been wearing this without a t shirt underneath and has reported that the rhino sweater fabric is comfortable against skin.
To showcase the seam design lines I decided to add some piping. He had a choice of yellow or orange. I ran out of piping cord so only the front seams have cord. For the back seams I just folded the bias tape in half and sewed it own with a quarter inch peeking out.
All the seams were finished with an overlocker and then topstitched down. It all creates a profresh look. Hubs opted for sleeves to be hemmed without the extended sleeve band with thumb insert.
The pattern instructions were very easy to follow. It sewed up quickly, finishing it in about 3 hours of sewing. The orange tab on the hem was a bonus feature just because :). Sizing was very accurate – based on the pattern envelope I sewed a medium size and this is the result without alterations.
Given that this pattern comes with the long sleeve, short sleeve, hoodie, collar tops and the joggers – it’s a great value pattern. Highly recommended!
Verdict from the wearer – he loves it! He wants loads more in different contrast colours. He is an avid Level 39 Pokemon trainer and he is keen to get the full outfit.
Thanks so much for reading and until next time, Happy Sewing!
