I’m excited to share this month’s make with you all. I wanted to make something a little different to what I usually wear. I found this gorgeous pattern from Wear Lemonade and I thought a nice, simple pair of Navy trousers would be so wearable for my autumn/winter wardrobe.
The pattern is the Juliette trousers by french designers Wear Lemonade. I’ve made a few of the Wear Lemonade patterns now, and I love the styles. I’m a part of their ‘Netflix of Sewing’ which is basically a pdf pattern subscription you can join on their website. It’s so easy and great value for money. The only thing I would have to say is the instructions are translated into broken english, so some paragraphs don’t make that much sense. I recommend you read the whole thing before you start, so you get a good idea of how the construction works.
The trousers are a lovely carrot shaped style with a waistband, zip fly and all the pockets you could need. I love the pleat details. They look so chic on, especially with a jumper tucked in. I think the design is very french and I adore the shape.
The fabric I chose was this super stylish Italian Polyester & Wool Blend Suiting Fabric
in dark navy blue. It’s so easy to sew and holds its structure quite nicely. If you have sensitive skin, the wool in it is a little scratchy but these aren’t fitted so it doesn’t bother me. The best thing about this fabric is that although it’s lightweight and thin, they are so warm to wear. So I’m so happy with my choice for this time of year.
I didn’t make any sizing modifications to this pattern at all. I thought the fit against my measurements was pretty good. I did get rid of the belt loops and I changed the fastenings from hook and eyes to poppers.
So my summary; I love the style and fit of this pattern. I’m so pleased I got a warmer fabric to make them from. And overall I’m really happy with how they look. It’s little different for me to wear this shape of trouser, but I’ve already worn them so much and had so many nice comments on them. Win, win!
I hope you like what I made this month. I think if I ever made a pair again, a plain black pair would be perfect to wear on a night out. Hope you like them as much as me.
Happy Handmade everyone! And as it’s December now - Merry Christmas!
