Good morning everyone! I hope you are well and are enjoying a lovely warm weekend. I planned to sew a shirtdress this month and had initially chosen a different pattern .... but then! Sew Over It has FINALLY release their Kitty dress

The pattern was released as a class, last year (???) and I was really keen on it and was (im)patiently waiting for it to be released as a pattern. THE WAIT IS OVER! As part of the pattern testing team, I was able to test Kitty in all her glory and I am smitten. The Dress is a shirtdress with a vintage feel to it, comes with four different bodices, with two different collar options. You also have the option of a gathered skirt or a panelled skirt. I really wanted to make an old school shirtdress and chose the bodice with the princess seams and the notched collar.

The dress is sewn out of woven fabric, you can choose to sew it out of viscose, cotton or linen. I sewed up this version using this lovely poly-cotton Shirting Fabric and really love how it turned out. HOWEVER: you will need quite a bit of fabric, depending on the combination of bodice, skirt and sleeves you’ll need between 2,5-3 meters of fabric. I sewed up a size 12 and had to take in the underarms by 0,5cm for a better fit though. I might just try the size 10 the next time and see how that turns out. If you’ve never sewn a shirtdress before, this is the pattern for you, I love the notched collar and the gathered skirt is very playful as well. As for the fabric, it presses like a dream. I used it to self-line the bodice and it turned out amazing! I do recommend using a 70 needle as the fabric is quite fine and you don’t want to spoil your dress leaving it riddles with massive needle holes!

A lot of my summer dresses from the past few years no longer fit me or just look worn out, which is why I plan to sew an army of Kitty dresses with different combos in the coming weeks. I’ve already finished 2 other versions of this pattern and a fourth one is waiting to be completed. FUN TIMES!! Talk soon!
