Liberty Lawn Melilot

If you want understated elegance then look no further than the Melilot Top by Deer & Doe Patterns.
Melilot is a casual shirt with drop shoulders offered in 2 versions. Version A has long sleeves and rounded collar; version B has cuffed short sleeves and mandarin collar. I sewed up version B with a rounded collar. It’s a loose fit and easy to wear top.
I am quite a fan of Liberty Tana Lawn Fabrics. This classic Liberty Fabric design I chose is inspired by nature with a beautifully detailed floral design. The delicate pinks and greens are perfect for summer. It goes without saying that Tana lawn is such a joy to sew with – it presses like a dream.
This is my first time sewing with the Deer & Doe and I quite like that the patterns are printed on recycled paper.
Aside from that I thought the sewing instructions were very well written out and easy to follow. It’s a quick project because the sleeves do not need to be eased in.
I really like this look in the crisp light Tana lawn but I also think it would work beautifully with lighter drapier fabrics like this Crepe Fabric (which I plan on making soon in a solid colour).
I found the look to be very flattering on the squareness of my shoulder line. I have fairly broad shoulders and I think it works especially with a slim skirt or pants. I can see myself making a few more of these tops. For now though this Liberty Lawn Melilot takes pride of place in my wardrobe – I love!
