My Flamingo Florence Dress

Hello everyone! For my third Minerva Crafts Blogger Network post I chose a fabric that immediately caught my attention when I saw it on the website! These gorgeous flamingos and the vibrant colors definitely were a challenge for me, as I have never worn such a bold fabric! I won’t lie, I had so much trouble deciding what to make with it! A few ideas were a pleated skirt with a matching top, a long dressing gown, a pair of pajamas or a shirt dress, but I really wanted to create something I would actually wear and enjoy! I was thinking about this ever since I received the fabric and I couldn’t make up my mind.
This situation changed last week, when I saw the new PDF pattern from Sew Over It, the Florence dress. This floaty dress with the mandarin collar made me change my mind! I bought it the same day, printed it and sticked it together and without a second thought I cut into my precious fabric!
I went for the maxi version and cut a size 10, according to my measurements! It fits me perfectly and I didn’t have to make any alterations at all! The dress features a button-up bodice with a pretty mandarin collar that you can also leave open. It has an elasticated waist that makes the fitting much easier and is very comfortable and elegant!
I used some little pearl buttons that my mom had saved from an old dress to add extra elegance to my Florence and I didn’t regret it! They were the perfect match!
As for the construction itself, it took me less than a day to sew this dress. The instructions were great and I had no problems at all! The only change I made was shortening the skirt by an extra centimeter, as it was too long on me.
Overall, I’m extremely satisfied with my choice and I can’t wait to wear my dress out and about!
I hope you like it!
