Hi pinups! I can't believe I'm already on my third Minerva Craft Blogger Network make, I hope you're enjoying them as much as I am making (and wearing) them! So, onwards to my next project, which might just be the ultimate Winter skirt!
When I spotted Minerva Craft's range of affordable Needlecord Fabric, I knew I had to get some. This delicious tan shade was dying to be made into a button up A-line skirt, a super popular style on the high street right now. But now you can make one yourself instead, using the New Look 6346 Skirt Pattern!
I've seen a few versions of the Simplicity New Look 6346 skirt popping up and it looked like a great Winter essential that I could get a lot of use out of. Using Version B and paired with needle-cord, it gives this mini skirt a great shape.
Heres a peek at the pattern:
When I was plotting this project I knew future me would appreciate a simple-to-sew garment during the busy festive period. And I'm so glad I did! This pattern was really straightforward to make and only took me a couple of hours from start to finish - my kind of sewing! I would certainly recommend this pattern to any level of sewist, it's so simple and stylish - it'd be rude not to!
For my button up skirt I chose these Metal Jeans Buttons. I think these provide a really professional touch compared to regular sew in buttons. I'll definitely be getting these again. As they hammer in, it doubles as a great stress reliever!
In terms of fit, the skirt is a little big for me. I had all the Christmas food I had eaten in mind when I cut the pattern out and dreaded making one too small! However I'll happily be tucking lightweight jumpers into this skirt and could style it with a belt, even belt loops could be added for extra practicality. Classic me, but next time I make this skirt, because there will be a next time, I'll take a little out the waist but keep the same hip measurements.
As always, here's my short sewing summary with everything you need to know...

Sewing Summary:

Pattern: Simplicity New Look 6346

Fabric: 16 Wale Cotton Needlecord Corduroy Dress Fabric - Tan

Notions: Clip On Jeans Buttons - Silver

Sewing time: Only a couple of hours.

Modifications: None!

Fit: The fit is comfortable but certainly edges on the side of generous. I could definitely take a little out the waist next time.

Difficulty: Easy-peasy!

Watch out for: A tidy waist band and front facings will make all the difference to the final finish of the skirt.

Make Again?: Yes! This skirt would also be fabulous in denim, which I'm already plotting.

Overall, I love this pattern and can't wait to use it again. It's one of those patterns that will always be a great wardrobe staple and is so versatile. Like I said, I'd love to make this in denim and other needle cord colours. For Summer, I see a gingham version in my sewing horizon!
I hope you've enjoyed my first 3 months of Minerva Blogger Network makes. I've got 3 more lined up and I can't wait to show you what I'll be getting up to. Stay tuned at The Crafty Pinup as soon I'll be giving you a sneaky look at my upcoming projects and supplies.
