Welcome, October!

It's time for a new Minerva Crafts Blogger Network post and this month I'm crossing my fingers and hoping you don't think it's *too* early for something a bit festive!

I actually made this Design Works Embroidery Santa Cushion Kit on the first rainy weekend back in September and I've been feeling wonderfully Christmassy ever since. Isn't he just adorable?!

I’ve had my eye on these Design Work cushion kits for quite a while (I think I actually considered getting one this time last year) so I was super excited to receive the Santa one in the post.

If Father Christmas isn’t your thing then there’s also a snowman and a penguin kit! I love that little penguin; his bow-tie is the cutest and just look at that stripy headband…

I particularly love that these cushion kits come with everything that you need (pre-cut) so all you have to do is stitch the parts together according to the picture. With the Santa cushion you get the felt pre-sewn cushion cover, a felt face, a little round nose, a moustache to stuff, the holly shapes and loads of buttons to stitch on for the eyes and beard. And I really, really love that button beard!

I stitched the cushion together in an afternoon sat in front of the TV – it really is quite simple, although a little fiddly at times with all the buttons. I had good fun stuffing Santa’s moustache before I attached that on and arranging all the white buttons was one of those simple pleasures in life! I think this project is best suited for older children (or adults!) as there are quite a few small parts to stitch together – younger children might find it too difficult and require a fair amount of help.

Once you’ve finished all that stitching, all you need to do is stuff the pillow with toy stuffing and there you have it! One festive Father Christmas all ready for the sofa come December. I’ve actually had my Santa cushion on display since September but don’t tell anyone ;)

What do you think?

Have I tempted you to get started on the Christmas crafts?
