The I AM Apollon

Hello fellow sewing Addicts, its Samantha from Sew By The Seaside back with a wintery make for my latest Minerva Crafts Blogger Network post!
As soon as Minerva Crafts posted a story on Instagram with their Latest Fabric Arrivals
and included the ‘Flecked Loop Back Sweatshirt Knit Dress Fabric
’ I knew that I immediately needed some to make a sweater, especially now the weather is getting chillier.
The fabric comes in two colour ways; Wine and Black with flecks of lighter colours all over, the fabric has a great stretch, super cosy and is perfect for sweaters, hoodies and even joggers or pyjama bottoms! Oh, and it’s in the sale at £7.99 a metre… go get your hands on some now! As much as I love the black I have been making a conscious effort to step out of my comfort zone and choose other colours for my me made wardrobe, so this time I selected the Wine.
The Sewing Pattern
I used is the ‘I AM Apollon Sweater Top & Dress’ and I chose to make the Dress version, however if I were to truly wear it as a dress I’d need to lengthen it. It is perfect length for me as a casual sweater over jeans or leggings. This was my first time using a pattern from I AM, they are a French pattern company who have a beautifully curated selection of patterns that I will most definitely try to work my way through!
The packaging is stylish and clean, the pattern is printed on a lovely heavy weight paper and the instructions are in simple black and white but very easy to follow – if you’ve made a Linden, Astoria or an Agnes before The Apollon will be a breeze for you! You can easily make this sweater in an afternoon.
Don’t worry if you don’t have an overlocker, I made my Apollon just using the Zig zag stitch on a normal sewing machine. However, using an overlocker will of course give that perfect inside finish!
I made my sweater whilst having a sewing day with a group of lovely enthusiasts I’d met on Instagram, we all got together in a sewing studio with our projects and spent the day chatting sewing, life and fabric – If you get the chance to meet up with fellow sewists you chat with online, do it! It was a fantastic day, but as someone who normally sews alone I did lose concentration a couple of times and made little mistakes... like sewing the waistband on the wrong way round! It’s almost as bad as drinking and sewing... not that any of us do that of course!
Since making my I AM Apollon sweater dress it has been a wardrobe staple, it has been my go to for casual pub dinners, trips to town and I made sure it was in my holdall full of easy to find outfits when we moved to a new house last week. I was even more grateful to myself and my fab choices when the boiler broke on day two and it’s kept me nice and toasty at home since!
