This project was the most marvellous combination of pattern and fabric. Grey is such a clever colour and manages to go with everything and this Ponte Roma Fabric is perfect for the Grainline Studios Morris Blazer.

I have wanted to make this Sewing Pattern for a long time and am so pleased I finally did and have since made another four. This grey one gets the most wear though and is a perfect fit. It's such a satisfying make and goes together really well. Having read lots of blog posts about the Morris, I followed advice to interface not only the front facing but also the whole front piece. I used Stretch Interfacing which was really easy to apply and left the fabric feeling really soft and supple. I also stabilised the shoulders with one inch iron on hemming tape.

I used a zig zag stitch for the seams and then overlocked the edges for a neat finish and followed the incredibly clever instructions for attaching the collar. Topstitching round the edge gives a really professional finish to the blazer.

I like jackets and cardigans to have a closure so I covered a button with the ponte and the amazing Prym Button Covering Tool and attached a large press stud with the button on top to keep the blazer closed.

This Ponte Fabric is glorious and the pattern is fabulous. Both come highly recommended by me if you are after a lovely lightweight blazer to wear all year round. It also works well in a stretch woven fabric and scuba! Give it a try. My next one will be in stretch velvet.

Happy sewing!
