Vogue V9123 Tweed Coat

Hi pinups! I'm so excited to finally share this make with you! I knew as soon as I saw this gorgeous classic Tweed Fabric I needed to make it into a coat. Combined with the 'very easy' Vogue Sewing Pattern (9123) and a Polka Dot Lining Fabric, it was a match made in heaven to create my dream coat.
Here's a peek at the pattern & my supplies:
Once my supplies arrived, I actually whipped up this make straight away, even though it wasn't due to be on the Minerva Craft Blogger Network for a couple of months! I was dying to wear it and I'm so glad I did as I've had so much wear out of it. I don't think anything from my me-made wardrobe has been worn so much.
The coat pattern is super simple (which definitely appealed to me!), fully lined with no collar. It's a great transitional coat and not too heavy so I'll certainly be wearing it well into Spring! If you follow my blog or social media, you'll see I wore it on my trip to London, which you can see here. And if you've checked out my new YouTube channel, I featured it in my February Sew & Tell video which you can watch here. I also really like the dress pattern with the flared sleeves, so hopefully I'll give that a go in the future.
The pattern was great to follow, with clear instructions and came together reasonably quickly. I made no amendments to the pattern and it fits me just as I had hoped. It fits over a jumper or cardigan but isn't too oversized that it looks silly over just a t shirt or dress. This is the first coat I've made and I would certainly recommend it for beginners, it was simpler than most dresses I make! It's just getting used to a thicker fabric, but with the right needle and stitch, it'll sew up just the same. I'm also really happy I managed to get the fabric pattern to match across the front!
As always, here's my short sewing summary with everything you need to know...
Pattern: Vogue Ladies Easy Sewing Pattern 9123 Jacket, Dress & Belt
Fabric: Edinburgh Large Check Tweed Coat Weight Dress Fabric Black & Mini Spot Patterned Viscose Lining Dress Fabric Black
Notions: Grey Jacket Buttons
Sewing time: A day.
Fit: Just as I wanted.
Difficulty: Super simple!
Watch out for: Tidy finishing touches will make this simple pattern extra chic! Look out for the center front corners and even button holes.
Make Again?: Yes! I loved making this and it would be a great pattern for faux fur...
Overall, you probably already know I'm really happy with this coat. I've gotten so much wear out of it and it makes a simple jeans and t shirt outfit look smart. One of my proudest makes to date!
Thanks for reading, pinups!
